One of the biggest reasons people resist dental braces is due to their appearance. Traditional fixed braces are commonly known for their “train track” look. Their design runs a metal wire and coloured brackets across the front of your smile. Whereas modern braces offer a more discreet look, with the same quality of teeth straightening results.
Lingual Braces and Invisalign are two popular treatment options but they work in very different ways.
Invisalign
Invisalign treatment consists of wafer thin aligners, manufactured using medical grade plastic known as SmartTrack. All Invisalign treatments are FDA approved and do not contain any traces of gluten, latex, BPA or BPS. The clear aligners are discreet, removable and easy to clean. They sit comfortably over your teeth and offer convenience while cleaning your aligner, brushing your teeth and eating.
Your Invisalign treatment will be produced using 3D computer imaging technology and aligners will be changed every two weeks. This will help to keep your teeth gradually moving into the desired position. For confident results, your virtual treatment plan will provide you with a sneak preview on the predicted final result.
Lingual Braces
Lingual appliances are fitted on the back of your teeth, for a very hidden treatment. Their design involves tiny metal brackets and arch wires, which are fixed along the back of your teeth. Together they apply constant pressure to push your teeth into a straighter alignment. In addition, they can help to close gaps, rotate teeth, fix bites and straighten overcrowding.
Once your treatment time is up, your teeth will be fully set and aligned. Following the treatment, you will be prescribed with a retainer to stabilise the teeth and prevent relapse. This will eliminating the worry that they will return to their original misalignments.
If you do not meet the requirements for clear aligners, Lingual Braces may be the perfect alternative for you. This may also be more beneficial for some patients, as Lingual Braces can be more effective for complex movements. In particular, they work well at altering teeth height, correcting rotations and closing gaps.
