Types of Teeth Straightening for Adults in 2023

There has never been a better time to get adult braces, simply because there are so many different types of treatment available. From fixed braces that offer cost effective teeth straightening for adults, to invisible aligners and hidden braces that can discreetly and gradually move the teeth into a better position, now is a great time to get the smile you have always wanted.

If 2023 is the year you have set aside to find out more about your braces options and possibly start treatment, then this blog is for you, as we provide an overview of the different types of adult brace we offer here at Marsh House Orthodontics.

Which Adult Brace is Right For You?

Providing you have good oral hygiene and healthy teeth and gums then you can undergo teeth straightening treatment to correct issues such as gaps, crooked teeth, overbite, underbite or overcrowding. Whilst we will always recommend that you book in for an initial consultation so we can talk through the most suitable treatment options to fix the issues you are experiencing, it is also a good idea to get an understanding of how each type of brace works so that you can ask any questions during your appointment.

Traditional Fixed Braces

These train track style braces have long been the most cost effective solution for straightening teeth. They continue to advance in technology, making them smaller and more comfortable than they used to be. The basic premise remains the same - metal brackets are fitted to the front of the teeth with a wire running through them and small elastic bands holding the wire in place. You can customise this type of brace by choosing the colour of the elastic bands or even opt for gold brackets and wires to mix up that traditional stainless steel look.

Ceramic Braces

Similar in design and application to the traditional fixed braces, ceramic braces are fitted to the front of the teeth but with a modern twist. Instead of metal brackets, this type of adult brace uses tooth coloured or clear brackets which blend in more naturally with your smile.

Invisible Aligners

The most desirable adult brace is probably the invisible aligner, due to its ease of use and discreet nature. Invisible aligners such as Invisalign, use a system of clear plastic aligners, custom made for each individual and changed every two weeks to gradually move the teeth into position. Aligners can be removed for eating, drinking and teeth brushing, making them very easy to live with, however they are only suitable for minor orthodontic issues and the effectiveness of the treatment depends on the discipline of the individual as you will need to ensure you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day.
